Why AI assistants get your business wrong

When someone asks an AI assistant about your business, it doesn't read your website the way a person does. It reads a short machine summary of you, then answers from that. If the summary is wrong, the answer is wrong. And the assistant says it with total confidence.

What "wrong" looks like

The same patterns show up in our audits across southern Minnesota:

  • The wrong phone number. One shop's summary sent assistants to a Kentucky area code. Customers who asked for the number got a different business entirely.
  • Stale information. A restaurant's summary still listed last year's event. The assistant described it like it was happening this weekend.
  • Mistaken identity. The assistant mixes the business up with a different company that has a similar name, and recommends the wrong one.
  • Nothing to say. No summary exists at all, so the assistant guesses from scraps. Guessing means getting skipped.

None of these businesses knew. Their websites looked fine to human eyes.

Why you can't spot it yourself

You can't see the summary the way the machine sees it. The only way to find out what assistants say about you is to ask them the questions your customers ask, one by one, and check every answer against the truth. That's slow, tedious work. It's also exactly what our free audit does.

What it costs

One wrong number is a customer calling someone else's shop. One wrong service area means you never come up in the towns you actually serve. These aren't hypotheticals. They're the answers real assistants are giving right now.
